About Jason Kew
I first started racing on my 10th Birthday in Segto juniors in a mini.My first race meeting was at Faringdon race track 18th August 1996 and i hated it. Faringdon was a dirt track and i just couldnt get to grips with it. i never raced a Faringdon agian as at the end of 1996 it was shut down. Faringdon was run by Mike Hook who also run the Standlake Arena Track. I continued my junior racing at Standlake till i was 16 i never won a points championship at Standlake. The best i could mangage was a 5th overall in 2001 and 5th overall in 2002 which was not bad as i never done a full season due to dad racing in the national hotrods the meetings would sumtimes clash. The only championship i won in juniors was the 2002 segto junior championship segto was short for South Eastern Grass Track Organisation we raced one meeting at each of 5 tracks. Which was
.Standlake
.Tongham
.S.A.A (Horndean)
.Croydon
.Worthing
The final championship standings was made up of the points gained by each driver and every round. I won the points and in second place was Luke "Spooky" Dawson who is still one of my best mates today.
At the end of 2002 i was old enought to make the step into the Hot Rods. My first Hot Rod was a Toyota Startlet I raced at Two Standlake meetings in this car before it was sold to make way for a Pugeot 205 Spedeworth 2Litre HotRod. After a few meetings at Standlake my First Spedeworth meeting was 2nd feb 2003 the Hot Rod open championship at Wimbledon. i managed stayed out of the post and wire fence but in the final there was a big pile up and i was in it knocking my self out i continued racing the 205 for a year. in 2004 the ex Jason Wilks Vauxhall nova was purchased. This was to be the year that things wuld get better and better. I was still at white grade till i got the nova i manage to clime to superstar grade at spedeworth pick up my first spedeworth race wins. Also when i was not racing at spedeworth i was racing at standlake in the hotrods. I manage to finish 2nd in the 2004 hotrod points whi ch for me was a big achievment after missing 5 points metings aswell.
So in late 2004 my Dad decided to give racing a break for a while so we sold the nova and i ended up with his ludlow motorsport vauxhall corsa.
The first meeting in 2005 was the Hot Rod open at Wimbledon after good finishes in the heats i was out side pole for the final. Next to Kevin Randell the 2003 and 2004 2Litre Hot Rod World Champion and i finished Second behind him so 2005 was off to a good start. The next meeting that sticks in my mind is the British championship at ipswich. i won the first heat and a decent finsh in the second heat gave me outside pole (alongside Kevin Randell agian) for the big race only i never got off the line. The fuel pump packed up on the start line. We traveled to Ireland in August for the 2005 2 Litre Hot Rod world final after engine troubles in the qualifying heats i lined up 28th on the grid for the big race at the end of the race i finshed 10th for and 18 year old with only 2 years expierence in Hot Rods i was realy happy. The rest of 2005 was a average year i managed to stay red or superstar grade all year.
2006 The only meeting that sticks in my mind from 2006 is the World Championship at Swaffam Raceway. I qualified 10th on the grid behind the man who won the race Gary Goodswen i was running well i had made my way up to Fifth place Gary was in Forth then i felt a big hit on the back bumper from Diggy Smith that pushed the bumper into the driverside rear tyre and punchured it and i went spinning out of the race.
2007 Up untill then i had never won a final at spedeworth this was all going to change. At the start of the year there was a mini series sponsored by Robert Collard (touring car driver) it was run over 3 meetings at Wimbledon. At the second meeting i won my first final. Then on to the thrid meeting it was the final meeting of the series and the highest points scorer from the previous meetings was on pole for the final race that was Me. I won the race I led the race start to finsh not with out alot of presshure from the cars behind. I won £500 and my second final of 2007 I was now the 2007 Collard Demolition and waiste mini series winner.
In May we were racing at Ipswich for the English championship it was rianing realy heavy. In the first heat after geting in to first place from my grid postion near the back of 25 cars i clashed with a back marker that ripped the steering arm off the drivers side front of the car which left me with only one front wheel steering. I did finsh the race i ended up in 3rd place. In the 2nd heat i finshed 2nd and that gave me grid 4 for the English championship on the first corner sumthing broke on the car. I went streight on into the armco and had to retire maybe it was caused from the clash in the first race?
The 2007 World Final was held at Ipswich i had bad luck all meeting and after starting about 30th on the grid for the big race i got up to 15th position half way thru the race the the diff blew to cap off a rubbish weekend.
The next meeting i done well at was the 2007 national championship at Ipswich I finished thrid.
We was back at ipswich agian for the 2007 Long Track Champonship i had a decent finsh in my 1st heat and won the 2nd heat. This put me outside pole for the champonship race Lee Pepper was on my inside and i beat him off the line and was never troubled agian i won my 3rd final of the year and my first title
So on to Wible don the 4ht Novemeber i won my 4th final of the year. Then back to Wimbledon for the Best in Britian Championship a race i realy want to win as my dad won in 2002 in the national Hot Rods. I finished 4th in the first heat and a crash in the second heat ment i was 12th on the grid for the Best in Britian championship. There was a few crashes in this race and that allowed me to get up to 5th place. Then there was a major crash on the home strieght witch involed race leader Jason Wilks I came round the corner past him to take 4th place but he pulled out of the crash into the side of my car causing loads of damage and i had to retire.
Thats the end of my racing history thats just a few meetings thats stuck in my head obviously i cant remeber every meeting as i do between 20 and 30 meetings a yea. I will keep you all up to date on the 2008 racing page with how this year goes.
Hope you enjoyed the read
